GrabNet is a tool designed to easily collect and organize information while browsing the Internet. GrabNet stores information intuitively in folders and sub-folders on the local desktop. Users can casually grab snips of information, including images, text and URL's, for later use and organization within a customized collection of folders. While GrabNet works with any World Wide Web Browser, Version 1.0 is optimized to work with Netscape Navigator version 1.1. The Macintosh version is currently available for a free 10 day evaluation.
Requirements for the Macintosh
• System 7.1 or greater.
GrabNet uses Macintosh Drag & Drop, included in System 7.5. Extensions for Drag & Drop must added to System 7.1. The GrabNet Installer will add the Drag & Drop extensions to your system if your are running System 7.1 or greater but less than 7.5.
• System 7.5 to use the Apple Guide Help included with GrabNet.
• Netscape Navigator (TM) version 1.1b3 for full GrabNet capability.
Use of this browser with GrabNet will enable drag & drop, and retrieval of current page information. Some GrabNet features will not work with older versions of Netscape. ForeFront Group is currently in the process of testing GrabNet with additional browsers.
Known Problem: Many objects or several large images within a single folder may require more memory than GrabNet has allocated. If this occurs, some images may be missing from tiles or the viewer. If you see this behavior, reduce the number of objects or large images within the folder, or increase the application memory setting. GrabNet is currently set to 2MB memory (Preferred).
NEW!
Apple Guide Help has been added. Just press the Help key or choose GrabNet Help Guide on the Help menu. Then choose Topics and any subject you need help with.
Upgrading from V.5 and V.6 Alpha versions
A new name - GrabNet!
If you don't want to save your old "DragNet" data, choose one of the New Install options to install into a new GrabNet folder, and you're done. You can delete the old "DragNet" folder anytime.
Upgrading from alpha requires several quick manual steps after running the Installer (Upgrade option) in order to save your old "DragNet" data.
• If you upgraded into the existing alpha "DragNet" folder, you should:
1. Rename your DragNet folder to GrabNet to accomodate future upgrades.
2. Open the GrabNet folder and rename the top-level DragNet Catalog folder to GrabNet Home. (If a GrabNet Home folder already exists, delete it before renaming DragNet Catalog.)
3. Delete the DragNet Preferences file in the System:Preferences folder.
4. Delete the DragNet .5 or .6 alpha application.
• If you upgraded to any new folder including the default "GrabNet", you must:
1. Move the DragNet Catalog folder from the old DragNet folder to the new GrabNet folder.
2. Open the GrabNet folder and rename the top-level DragNet Catalog folder to GrabNet Home. (If a GrabNet Home folder already exists, delete it before renaming DragNet Catalog.)
3. Delete the DragNet Preferences file in the System:Preferences folder.
